DISCO has an extremely helpful function for copying track info from one track to another. Utilize this function when an alternative mix version, like an instrumental, is uploaded without any metadata.

Copy Track Info Overview

Copying track information is a useful DISCO feature,  allowing you to transfer data from one track to another, which both saves you time and ensures consistency across different versions of a song.

In this article, you will learn:

  1. How to access and navigate the Copy Track Info function
  2. Which fields overwrite or add to existing data
  3. How to preview your metadata on downloaded tracks
  4. How to undo a copy
Copy track info to another

How to Copy Track Info

The most common use cases for this feature include:

  1. Copying from the main version of a track to alternate versions, such as instrumentals, clean versus explicit,  acapella, etc.
  2. Copying information to a new track iteration, i.e. from a demo, to a mix, to a final master

Open the Copy Track Info Tool

There are multiple places where you can access the Copy Track Info tool.

From the Track Info editor:

Open the copy track info menu

From the Track menu:

Copy track info options highlighted in track menu

From the Multi-Select actions menu:

Multi select tracks and choose copy track info to these tracks from the pop up menu

Select the desired track info to copy

  • Select which fields to copy across on the From side.
  • Preview how the fields will be updated on the To side.

By default, all fields will be selected to copy over except for Title (you don't want to overwrite “Instrumental,” etc.) and Order:

Deselect any fields in the From column that should not get copied.

In this case, I deselected Lyrics, Grouping, a couple of Writers, and one of the Client notes:

deselect or select different fields to copy

Want to work on different tracks?

Simply remove tracks from both sides, then search for the tracks you do want to work with in the search bar:

Remove track options are highlighted

Will Copying Overwrite or Add Data?

It depends on the track info data type and field.

  • Metadata fields: Overwrite
  • Lyrics: Overwrite
  • Writers: Overwrite
  • Custom Fields: Overwrite
  • Notes: Add
  • Tags: Add

Note:

  • Existing Writers information will be lost/overwritten when the copy is completed.
  • A warning will display if any fields will be overwritten:
Warning pop up when data will be overwritten

Undoing a Copy Action

That was easy! But oh no... I accidentally copied all the tags when I didn't mean to.

No sweat!

Copy actions come with an UNDO option that lasts for 10 seconds. Clicking “Undo” in the bottom left corner of DISCO will revert the track info back to what it was before making the copy.
Undo copy metadata button is highlighted in bottom left

Previewing Downloading Metadata

In the Track Info area you can preview how your metadata will look after download.

This is especially useful when you are utilizing settings that only write internal info (like Track Tags) into metadata when Tracks start to download.

  • Open the Track Info editor
  • Open the Copy Track info menu
  • Select Preview track info:
Preview metadata is highlighted
Toggle between these two tabs to show which metadata Will and Won't write to files upon download:

Wrap-Up

Utilizing the Copy Track Info option saves you hours of work time that would otherwise be spent writing out metadata and other tedious track info.
