Email Creator Overview
The Email Creator adds a new dimension to your marketing capabilities by reducing the number of systems (and time) required to send email campaigns, while providing detailed, actionable insights into your contacts’ engagement activities.
In the pre-DISCO world, most companies managed their contacts in one system, built email campaigns in another (for example, Mailchimp), and linked content to file transfers via systems like WeTransfer, Dropbox, or SoundCloud.
DISCO combines all of these tools and processes with the Email Creator, which effortlessly links contacts to files and messaging. Each DISCO playlist in an email campaign creates unique URLs assigned to individual recipients, providing targeted insights into which tracks were streamed (or downloaded) - and by whom - as well as the usual stats around email openings, link clicks, etc.
- The Email Creator incorporates flexible drag and drop design options to quickly put together effective email blasts.
- DISCO access stats are hard to beat, with track-by-track streaming and downloading insights at the individual recipient-level.
Create an Email Campaign
Open the Email Creator dashboard from the sidebar to view and create email campaigns:
- Next, give your email a campaign name (this is just for internal reference; you'll set the subject and other details a little later on):
- Emails can be saved as templates for easy reuse.
- Click “Duplicate” next to the email in the Email Creator dashboard:
Add Recipients to Your Campaign
The first step is to choose recipients using the rules on the left-hand column.
DISCO allows you to email up to 8,000 recipients per campaign
- The simplest options are to add contacts to an existing mailing list or filtering by name, email, company, location, or contact tag of your recipients:
- Tags are also indexed in contact filters:
Add Multiple Filters
Add multiple filters to create a new list on the spot:
- For example, “Contact tag is A&R” and “Location is New York”
When creating the rules, choose users who match “All” or “Any” of the rules selected:
Users who match ALL of these rules = Exclusive
The list of recipients will get smaller as you add more rules, since they have to match ALL criteria.
Here is an example of users who match ALL rules:
- Contact tag is A&R
and
- Location is New York
Only A&R’s from New York remain in the recipients list:
Users who match ANY of these rules = Inclusive
When we set the same criteria as above but switch out “AND” with “OR,” many more recipients appear on the list because they satisfy either one (or both) of the rules:
Choose How a RuIe is Applied
Each rule has the following parameters:
- is not
- is
- contains
- does not contain
For example, you could select all emails containing “gmail,” or contacts whose name is not “Darren.”
One helpful way to use these rules is narrowing down as you go; start by selecting a larger group, and then add additional rules to exclude certain users.
In this example, I select a mailing list, then add an additional rule to exclude a particular person from that list by filtering out an individual name, email, location, and/or contact tag:
Once you've selected your recipients, click “Next” at the top right of the screen or select the second tab, “Email details”:
Add Email Details
In this step, you'll add key details to your email:
- “Email name” is your internal campaign name for example, "New Jazz Releases March 31 2023". (This is not publicly visible.)
- “Email subject” is the subject line of the email that will go out to everyone.
- “Sender display name” is the name that will be displayed as the author of the email.
- “Business address” is your physical business location. (This is required on all emails as part of anti-SPAM law.)
- "Sender from address" is the email address where any replies will be sent to.
When you're done adding email details, click "Next" or skip to the "Edit content" tab to design your email.
Send From Your Own Domain
The “from” address appears in this format: your.name.domain.com@disco-mailer.net.
- For example, if “tim@recordlabel.com” is the "Sender from address", it will be formatted as “tim.at.recordlabel.com@disco-mailer.net.”
Depending on your DISCO plan, you can arrange to deliver emails from your own servers. Please write to our DISCO Support Team to learn more about setup.
