Advanced Search Overview
In this lesson, you'll learn about:
- Refining search queries by adding filters
- Metadata and custom field filters
- Track tag filters
- Playlist tag filters
- Channel and Inbox filters
- Sorting search results
Refine a Search Query
Advanced search filters can be accessed from the drop-down arrow to the right of the search bar:
There are two ways to use filters - either enter a query into the search bar and then filter against it, or start searches by populating filters with inputs.
1) Start in the search bar, then apply filters against it:
The search below starts with "Rock" and scans all matching metadata fields, tags, etc.
By using advanced search, you can further filter results by:
- Year (between 1990 and 1993)
- Lyrics (lyrics are scanned for the word “flying”)
- BPM (higher than 120)
2) Start with a filter:
- Here we filter by Genre (Rock), and then apply the same filter parameters from the above example.
This second method should return less results, because we narrowed down the starting point to a single metadata field.
Metadata & Custom Field Filters
Custom fields can be manually set up for each DISCO account, according to team needs and specifications. Please reach out to our Support Team to request and set up custom fields, available on the Pro plan and above.
To filter by custom fields, open the advanced search filters to choose which fields you'd like to query - they appear in the filters, alongside the other metadata fields (these are only examples - each DISCO can have completely different fields):
Example Custom Field Queries:
Find all songs composed before or after a specific date:
Find all songs missing lyrics:
All agreements that expire between a date range:
Songs where you control 100% of the publishing:
All songs controlled worldwide:
Track Tag Filters
Use the track tags selector in advanced search to filter by track tags.
- Start typing into the track tag search field, or select tags from pre-populated categories:
Playlist Tag Filters
Use the playlist tag selector in advanced search to filter by playlist tags:
- Type in or select playlist tags from the dropdown
- Note that playlist tags do not belong to categories like track tags
Channel & Inbox Filters
Channels and Inboxes are referred to as "Groups" in DISCO’s advanced search.
- Find and select specific Channels and/or Inbox to filter results contained within them.
- When more than one group is selected, results will display from ANY of the groups containing the specified search parameters:
Sort Search Results
Search results appear in the Explorer area below the search bar.
Use the filter icon highlighted to the right to rearrange the order of results:
- Year/Release date
- Name (track title), alphabetically
- Artist, alphabetically
- Creation/upload date
- Relevance (DISCO's algorithm)
Wrap-Up
Advanced search filters are a powerful tool to help you find exactly what you're looking for in DISCO. By refining your search queries with metadata, custom fields, track and/or playlist tags, Channels, and Inbox filters, you can quickly narrow down and sort your results.
