Track Basics
Tracks provide the capability to stream, preview, share, download, add to playlists, delete, replace/merge files, and more.
In this article, you will learn about:
- Accessing and using tracks
- Viewing track details in the Explorer
- Track menu options
- Editing track info
- Sharing tracks
- Handling files linked to tracks
Where Do Tracks Go After They’re Uploaded?
Tracks appear in the Tracks area in Browse as soon as they have uploaded:
Adding Tracks to Playlists and Channels
Tracks are designed to be added to many playlists and/or Channels over time.
This action does not create a duplicate of the underlying file.
Any updates to a track and its metadata apply everywhere the track has been added in your DISCO.
Dropping a track into an existing playlist (that is not open in the Playlist Creator) will add it to the bottom of the list.
We recommend saving tracks to at least one playlist to help with general organization.
View Track Details in the Explorer
Select a track to open up a detailed view in the next column, which displays tags, metadata, and all the playlists the track is included in:
Track Action Icons & Menu
Hover over a track to access useful controls - the info hover, star/favorite, tag and open the track menu.
Editing Track Info & Metadata
The Track Info Editor contains different data points associated with the track in DISCO.
Sharing Tracks
Track Share URLs
Open the share area from the Track menu.
There are three share URL options: Regular track URL, Stream only URL and Download URL.
Shared Track URLs do not generate access stats. To generate access stats, share a playlists with a single track or assign the share to a contact.
- The Regular and Streaming Only URLs will open to a share page (see below).
- The Download URL immediately starts to download the track when it is clicked.
Track Share Pages
Track share URLs open up to formatted Track Share Pages, which display:
- Lyrics (if they’re present in the metadata)
- Download/Save to DISCO options
- Background imagery that is automatically generated from track art
Track Embed Codes
Similar to playlists, tracks also contain embedded player codes:
File Handling Options
Downloading from Inside DISCO
The Track menu includes the option to download audio in all available formats (WAV, AIFF, and/or MP3).
Note: the Pro plan and above includes the WAV > AIFF / AIFF > WAV converter.
Replacing Files
Open the Manage files and formats option in the Track menu to quickly replace audio or add a missing format.
A common use case is adding a WAV or AIFF to an MP3 that was previously uploaded, or replacing an existing file with a new mix or master.
Deleting Tracks
When a track is deleted from DISCO, it instantly disappears from every playlist and Channel that previously contained it.
Removing Tracks
To remove a track from a playlist:
- Edit the playlist in the Playlist Creator.
- Hover over the track and click the “X.”
(“Shortlist” is the old name for the Playlist Creator)
The option to remove tracks and playlists using the “X’ button is also available within Channels and Inboxes.
Wrap-Up
Tracks in DISCO provide a comprehensive set of tools for managing and sharing audio. With this unique tool suite, you can stream, share, download, and replace audio files, edit metadata, and apply changes and preferences across thousands of playlists.
